"I look ridiculous..." Devin muttered as he climbed out of the truck-cab. He fingered the bright golden trim on his russet riding-jacket distractedly. He looked across at the other riders and swallowed a gasp of suprise.

Liz had said he was supposed to look like the Lord of Autum and indeed he had thought the outfit was overly rich with too much trim and heavy embroidery on the tails and sleeves. She had him told that everyone competing would be wearing a 'costume' riding-jacket or some other get-up but what some of these folks were wearing made him feel down-right underdressed.

Walking round the trailer to where Konig was tied Devin checked over the senior stallions' saddle and hardware. It was simple brass but he had spent all of the night before polishing it until it gleamed like gold.

Konig raised his head and slowly chewed the mouthful of sparse autum grass. His skin shook and the leopard spots shimmered like copper-pennies in the sunlight. He was a older stallion and his career had been spent entertaining children at the circus. He had been a trick-horse and very clever until a accident halted his career. The stallion shifted his weight from the bad left-hind to the right restlessly.

Patting the stallions' nose affectionatly Devin pulled himself into the saddle and headed towards the Arena. They'd show 'em that this was not a one-trick pony.
